  • Dryer Vent Cleaning

Radon testing

Aire Aware can test for Radon
Radon is a radioactive, colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas. It is formed as natural deposits of uranium throughout the earth's crust decay. As radon decay products are inhaled, they can alter the cells in the lungs. These alterations can increase the potential for getting lung cancer. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer behind smoking. An estimated 14,000 people die of radon related lung cancer each year.  The only way to detect radon and know the level of exposure is through testing.

Air duct cleaning

Aire Aware can clean dirty air ducts
Construction debris, toys, lint and dirt get trapped in your ducts.  We use compressed air to clean ducts thoroughly, efficiently and effectively without the risk of damaging ducting.  Our Hypervac system blasts dust and debris loose from ducting in combination with air handling and a vacuum system.  According to the National Air Duct Cleaners Association, it is recommended to clean your air ducts every 3-5 years.  Our Cobraview 2 camera system allows you to see before and after pictures of your ducts.

Radon mitigation

Aire Aware will test your home for Radon
There are several methods that can be used to lower radon levels in your home. Some techniques prevent radon from entering your home while others reduce radon levels after it has entered. EPA generally recommends methods which prevent the entry of radon. The most common system consists of pvc pipe connected to the soil either through a hole in the slab, a sump lid connection or beneath a plastic sheet in a crawl space.  Attached to the pipe is a quiet, continuously operating fan that discharges the radon to a safe location outside of the home.

Dryer vent cleaning

Aire Aware can clean your dryer vents.
Dryer vent cleaning is an oft-forgotten item on the to-do list.  However, if you haven’t cleaned your dryer vents in over a year, you should add it to the top of your list.  Lint is highly flammable and responsible for about 4.5% of all house fires.  Keeping your vents clean will use up to 30% less energy, increase the lifespan of your dryer and deter unwanted animals making nests and homes inside your vent.  For a family of four, it is suggested you clean the dryer vent 3 times per year.

What is Radon?

Radon is a radioactive gas that forms naturally when uranium, thorium, or radium, which are radioactive metals break down in rocks, soil and groundwater. People can be exposed to radon primarily from breathing radon in air that comes through cracks and gaps in buildings and homes. Because radon comes naturally from the earth, people are always exposed to it.

Do I have it?

Geologic Radon Potential of the U>S> map
The upper Midwest has a high potential for radon exposure (see the map).  The only way to know for sure is to test your home.  We provide an active monitor test which are more sophisticated devices that utilize electronics to provide an hour by hour reading of radon variations. These monitors give instantaneous results rather than passive tests which you can purchase at a hardware store which typically require laboratory analysis to determine the radon levels.
